Easy as falling off a blog
A big tip o' the NWP hat to Marian Anderfuren for organizing a newsroom panel to consider establishing our own best practices for the use of Web logs.
Marian has invited Marquita Smith, Meredith Kruse, Kerry Sipe, Baylies Brewster, Bill Bartel and David Putney to begin the process of codifying what is and isn't proper for reporters and editors to do in Web logs.
Just as the process gets under way, Editor & Publisher is featuring a cover story, "Letting the Blogs Out," about the innovative and aggressive approach to blogs by our sister paper, The Greensboro Daily News. It's mandatory reading for everyone on Marian's task force and for anyone else interested in the subject of blogging. (You'll need to register with E&P to view the article, but everyone on the staff should have free access.) After purusing the story, you'll want to take a close look at the blogs The Daily News is doing. You can find them here.
The Blogging Task Force would be pleased to hear from any member of the staff who has something to add to the discussion. If you'd like to share your views with the rest of the newsroom, just click on the "Comments" button below and post it to "News Without Paper."
