The blogosphere takes notice

The blogosphere has taken a sideways glance at the online chat by the Pilot's Education Team on May 3.

A local blog known as Bearing Drift took issue with the fact that the online Q&A featured Pilot reporters and editors rather than public school officials. He scolded:

Are you telling me you couldn't get one person from the school board, one teacher, one administrator, and one ODU Ph.D to take a few minutes of their day to answer questions, perhaps colored with a reporter's comments and ideas?

OK, Bearing Drift isn't the first blogger to dump on the MSM. We're big boys and girls; we can take it. But he must know that citizens of Hampton Roads get more information about school board members, teachers, administrators and education specialists through the Pilot's journalism than through any other medium. That said, online chats with newsmakers is a good idea -- one we've used before and will use again.

More interesting, I think, was a comment attached to the post from a reader calling himself "Squeaky Wheel":

It just dawned on me... These Journalist 'experts' are trying to capatalize on the blogger craze. Can't have it both ways kids... Either be Main Stream Media OR be a Citzne Journalist... Wannabes!

Sorry, Squeak, ol' kid, but I refuse to surrender my credentials as a "citizen journalist" just because I can spell it correctly.
