Convergence stars in "the Star City"

There was no point in anybody else showing up at the convergence competition at the Virginia Press Association last weekend. Our Landmark brethern at The Roanoke Times and roanoke.com took home first, second and third place in the convergence category. They didn't leave any scraps on the floor for the rest of us!

First place went to Seth Gitner, Ralph Berrier Jr., Kyle Green, Robert Lunsford and Patrick Beeson for a delightful multimedia piece called "Going Down the Crooked Road," about Virginia's heritage music trail.

Second place went to Beth Macy, Josh Meltzer and Melissa Worden for "An Unlikely Refuge," a surprising multimedia piece about a group of Somali Bantu refugees who have taken up residence, of all places, in a Roanoke apartment complex.

Third place went to the Times staff for a quirky daily video podcast called "TimesCast." It's hard to describe. You've got to see if for yourself.

No doubt about it. They do good work in them thar' hills.
