`Bloggy's' demise highly exaggerated

Fred Schecker, senior online producer at Interactive Media, writes that the rarely agrees with Eric Zorn, whose blog, "Change of Subject" appears on the Web site of Fred's hometown paper, The Chicago Trib, "but in this case, I am at least sympathetic."

Zorn wrote in response to a recent editorial in his newspaper entitled "Bloggy, we hardly knew ye," which implied that the blogging craze had "jumped the shark." Zorn wrote:

It wasn't exactly "Dewey defeats Truman," but the cute valedictory "Bloggy, we hardly knew ye" in a headline atop a Tribune editorial Wednesday seems likely to take a place in history alongside such clouded crystal-ball pronouncements as "Who the hell wants to hear actors talk?" "Radio has no future" and "There is not the slightest indication that nuclear energy will ever be obtainable."

That's a relief. It would be a rotten shame if interest in blogging disappeared just as The Virginian-Pilot is finally poised at the edge of the blogosphere, trying to get up nerve enough to jump in.
