Reporting from ''Blogsboro''

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- I've driven 250 miles in a driving rain to to attend a conference of more than 450 bloggers at something called "ConvergeSouth" being held on the campus of North Carolina A&T University. The event is being sponsored by our Landmark brethern and sistern at The News & Record, where blogging is being celebrated as the last great hope of journalism.

Even though it's after 10 p.m., I got a nice welcome: The lede editorial in the N&R is entitled "'Blogsboro' convenes a cyberspace party." Here's a quote:

Fostering that kind of creative energy and ownership on the Internet, across racial and socioeconomic lines, can only be a boon for Greensboro, the Triad and beyond, as technology's role in commerce and culture continues to grow. As (News & Record columnist Edward)Cone notes, ConvergeSouth could be a long-term development opportunity for Greensboro. And of course, there's the more immediate economic impact of hundreds of attendees converging in town.

Surely, Ed isn't pinning the city's economic future on us poor bloggers. Doesn't he know what cheap sons o' guns we are?
