A-pickin' and a-grinnin'

Readers of Lon Wagner's delightful four-part series on Virginia's mountain music last week didn't have to be satisfied with Lon's evocative descriptions of the bluegrass sound. They could actually hear the music and the voices of those who make it. Lon took a digital recorder with him as he toured the "crooked road" that passes through Virginia's bluegrass country. Paired with photos by Bill Tiernan, Lon's audio dared his online readers not to tap their feet. He even captured a Virginia musical artifact -- Ralph Stanley singing his class "O, Death" a capella.
